Kelley NemchickTrainer & Service Dog Specialist

Hi, I’m Kelley Nemchick. I am a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in dogs ~ raising, training, and being around them as much as possible! When I turned eight, I got my first dog that was “mine”. Buddy was a wire-haired miniature dachshund who was my best friend for many years, that I taught different obedience commands to as well.

Later on, I became quite interested in training puppies for the Guide Dogs for the Blind program. I worked with one of the Guide Dogs For The Blind Clubs in Oregon for about 4 years where I was able to raise my own Guide Dog puppy. Jupiter, a yellow Labrador, came to live with me when she was 11 weeks old. I taught her all the basic obedience commands, as well as complete housebreaking, walking on and off a leash with a proper heel, riding in elevators, attending school daily with me, going to work with me at a veterinary clinic, using public transportation, proper behavior in public venues such as movies, restaurants, and stores, etc, as well as ignoring other dogs and food when “on duty”. She went on to attend Guide Dog College at 18 months of age.

Before coming to Hawaii, I worked in a veterinary clinic as a veterinary assistant, groomer and kennel attendant for 5 years and I have volunteered at local animal shelters. I continue working and training service dogs ranging in all different breeds, ages, and sizes while also remembering the important role that basic skills and obedience play in the overall positive behavior of a dog.

My current canine companion child is Loki, an Australian cattle dog. I got him when he was an 8 week old puppy and have enjoyed teaching him many of the skills that I taught to Jupiter. He is very well-mannered and behaves appropriately in all settings. He is a certified service dog as well, and flies with me to the mainland often. He is a Hawaiian beach boy at heart ~ loves the water and sand, and is a very well trained beach companion!

In my free time, I enjoy exploring the islands and spending time with friends relaxing at a beach. I also continue taking classes and studying for certifications and traveling to workshops.
