Trainer & Class Coordinator
Hello, I’m Hannah Swope. Dogs have been a part of my life since childhood, I had German shepherds and German shorthairs growing up, but I have trained a large variety of breeds, ranging from Miniature Pinschers to Rhodesian Ridgebacks.
I’ve been working with animals when I was 15. I started out as an intern at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha as a zookeeper, which included handling and caring for exotic animals such as the tapir, cheetah, giraffe, and fennec foxes. After graduating, I worked as a kennel master and assistant groomer in Kentucky. When I moved to Missouri, I started working as a Veterinary Technician and also handled the boarding and care of short and long term patients. I started training dogs 6 years ago, including time abroad in South Korea. My professional career as a dog trainer started 3 years ago. My training style includes positive and balanced reinforcement.
Currently, I have a Catahoula Leopard at home and am training her to become a registered military therapy animal. She is currently a member of the AKC Canine Good Citizen.
I am happily married to my husband and have a menagerie of animals that greet me as I come home, including 2 rats (Sophie and Astrid), 2 cats (Lostboy and Dennis), a chameleon (Charmeleon), and of course, my child/dog Trixie.
When I’m not training I run a weekend dog hike group that is specifically geared to the dogs. This helps the dogs build strong social skills and also works on reaction to distraction and recall practice. I dabble in photography and also enjoy fostering.
